Vernon Realtor with Wealth of Experience
BJORN EDBLAD was born and raised in Northern Sweden in the land of the midnight sun. Early on, Bjorn became involved in music, playing accordion, and later, clarinet and saxophone as a professional in a Swedish Military Band.
Switching gears, Bjorn went back to school and graduated as a Chemical Engineer. Bjorn's quest for adventure and his wish to see the world landed him a job as a Pulp Mill Process Engineer in Canada, and together with his wife and two children, he sold all his belongings, and made the big move. A two-year contract turned out to be a life-time move.
Arriving in Canada with $2000 in his pocket, Bjorn bought his first house within three months, and the following year, a commercial building with no money down. While none of these investments proved to be particularly profitable, his interest for business and Real Estate had now awakened. After moving to Castlegar, BC, and working as the Senior Process Engineer for two years, Bjorn took the plunge and in 1972, completed the Real Estate Licensing course and started as a salesman. His friends and peers told him he was crazy. But Bjorn knew better and in his first full year in the real estate field (1973), sold over one million dollars in a market where the average house price was $16,000, and lot prices were around $2,000. He quickly became one of the top realtors in his area.
Later Bjorn started his own company - Castle Realty Ltd. - and had a number of realtors working for him. Over a ten-year period, Bjorn's involvement included:
- Residential & commercial sales
- Development of small subdivisions
- New home construction
- Marketing of International Condominium Time-share properties
- Marketing of residential lots in Florida
- Tax shelter investments
- Residential and commercial appraisals
- Office Management
- Recruiting & training of new sales associates
- Bought & held numerous properties for himself
During this time Bjorn also furthered his education and completed a 4-year, University of BC Real Estate Marketing and Appraisal Course, earning him a Diploma degree in Real Estate and Urban Land Economics.
After the so-called "crash of 1981" when interest rates went to 21% and real estate sales came to a virtual standstill, Bjorn thought he had had enough of the real estate business, and decided to get involved in some other business ventures. This included a move to White Rock, BC in 1986, and for a few years, Bjorn worked primarily with marketing of Health and Environment related products. During this time, Bjorn was still involved in the real estate industry working part-time as an Agent/Nominee for a Vancouver-based company. But the excitement of selling real estate was too much and in 1992, Bjorn went to work for Homelife Realty in White Rock.
"I remember the manager telling me that White Rock had the most sales people per capita in Canada, and would be extremely difficult to break into."
Not to be discouraged, Bjorn in his third year, earned the title of "Medallion Club Member". This meant he was in the top 10% of the entire Fraser Valley Real Estate Board of approximately 3500 sales people, as well as being in the top 5 of approximately 100 sales people in the office.
Having grown up in a small Swedish community, Bjorn and his wife always wanted to move back into the countryside, and in 1996, picked Vernon as "the place to live". Again, Bjorn had to start all over and without knowing a single person in the area, his new manager told him that it might be difficult to get established. The rest is history. After seven years in Vernon, Bjorn has truly established himself as one of the top realtors in the area.
So what's the secret of Bjorn's success? An unsurpassed work ethic and determination to achieve goals are two of the attributes.
"Something I learned from my parents in Sweden", says Bjorn, "They taught me as a young boy that to get where you want to go, you must be willing to work hard and never give up, and I have always taken their advice to heart."
So now you know the secret to Bjorn's success when it comes to Real Estate.
"I think the most important thing to remember is there are people behind every sale or purchase, and their wants and needs deserve all your attention," says Bjorn, "Real estate means nothing to me unless you're smiling and shaking my hand at the end."
A cheerful and satisfactory closing is the norm, thanks to his innovative and advanced techniques for getting the job done for you.
